The Pickle Hallproject is a state-of-the-art 60,000 sq. ft. facility featuring a double-heightpickleball complex integrated with a high-capacity, multi-level commercialkitchen and dining area.
Our team providedspecialized Mechanical and Plumbing (M&P) engineering services, deliveringrobust and efficient infrastructure solutions to support the demandingrequirements of both athletic operations and a full-scale culinary environment.
The designincorporated advanced HVAC, ventilation, water distribution, drainage, andplumbing systems tailored to the unique needs of the facility. Particularemphasis was placed on maintaining occupant comfort, indoor air quality, andoperational efficiency. All systems were designed in strict compliance withMinnesota State Mechanical and Plumbing Codes, providing a safe, reliable, andcode-compliant environment throughout the facility.
MECHANICAL DESIGNSCOPE
The mechanical designfocused on delivering high-efficiency climate control tailored to thefacility's unique double-height and kitchen zones. To meet the heating andcooling demands, we utilized Roof Top Units (RTUs) throughout the facility, strategically selected to provide optimal ventilation and thermal comfort. Forthe kitchen area, the HVAC design prioritized specialized exhaust systems tomanage grease-laden vapours and ensure a safe, balanced indoor air environment. All ductwork and equipment were calculated and sized to maintain precisezone-level temperature control, ensuring energy efficiency and operationalreliability for both the athletic and dining sections.
COMMERCIAL KITCHENPLUMBING & SYSTEMS
A primary focus ofour engineering scope was designing a robust, high-performance plumbinginfrastructure tailored specifically for the facility's extensive commercialkitchen operations.
Gravity-Based GreaseInterceptor: We engineered a precision-sized, gravity-based grease interceptorsystem to manage the high volume of fats, oils, and grease (FOG) generated bythe kitchen. The interceptor was carefully sized based on fixture unit flow ratesto ensure effective separation and prevent downstream line blockages, fullycomplying with local environmental and plumbing regulations.
Sanitary Waste &Vent Systems: We designed a high-capacity sanitary waste and vent networkspecifically configured to support the intensive drainage requirements ofcommercial kitchen equipment, multi-level prep areas, and public restrooms.
Domestic Water &Gas Distribution: A reliable domestic hot and cold-water system was engineeredto meet the heavy-duty water demands of the kitchen and locker rooms.Furthermore, our team designed a safe, high-efficiency gas piping network topower critical kitchen appliances and mechanical heating equipment, ensuringoptimal pressure delivery and strict compliance with safety protocols.
Stormwater Drainage:We managed the stormwater design for the 60,000 sq. ft. footprint, utilizingefficient piping layouts and roof drainage calculations to ensure effectivesite protection.
ENGINEERINGEXCELLENCE & COMPLIANCE
The design processprioritized long-term operational efficiency, occupant safety, and seamlessbuilding integration. All mechanical and plumbing systems were developed infull compliance with state-adopted building codes and relevant industrystandards. By performing detailed heat-load and plumbing fixture unitcalculations, we ensured that the infrastructure is resilient enough to handlethe dynamic needs of a busy culinary and athletic venue. All systems wereengineered to meet rigorous local requirements, including the MinnesotaPlumbing and Mechanical Codes, with detailed coordination to ensure that allsystem penetrations and routing were integrated seamlessly into the building'sarchitecture.
